20 Characteristics of a Successful Worksite Wellness Program
Overview:
Research has shown that companies providing wellness programs receive an average Return on Investment (ROI) of $3.48 to 1 due to reduced health care costs and $5.82 to 1 due to reduced absenteeism. As an outgrowth of this, many corporations are providing wellness programs or are planning to do so. The components of these programs, as well as how much of a ROI they generate, can differ greatly.
This talk will describe a best practice approach organizations can use to implement successful wellness programs. First, it will address issues many organizations face when creating a new wellness program or improving an existing one. How comprehensive should a wellness program be? How can wellness program managers gain management support and participation? How can a company keep its wellness program current? Second, a variety of program options will be discussed based upon the employer's specific needs, including self-care, behavior modification/lifestyle change, mental health, generic drug utilization, health coaching, and creating an organizational culture of health.
Finally, this presentation will offer concrete tips and strategies for maximizing ROI, increasing employee participation, involving dependents, offering programs with immediate benefits, addressing low and high risk employees, high tech versus high touch interventions, psychosocial issues, legal implications, evaluation, and other issues that affect the success of every wellness program.
